Television
TV says "No Signal"
Nine times out of ten this is the input, the cable, or the box the TV is plugged into — not the TV itself.
Before you start
Everything here is outside the TV. Never open the back of a television — the power board holds dangerous voltage long after it is unplugged.
- 1
Check the input
Press the Input or Source button on the remote and step through each one until you see your box or stick.
- 2
Wake the source
Make sure the cable box, streaming stick or console is actually powered on. Look for its own light.
- 3
Reseat the cable
Unplug the HDMI cable at both ends and push it firmly back in. A loose cable looks exactly like a dead TV.
- 4
Try another port
Move the cable to a different HDMI port on the TV, then select that input. If it works, the old port has failed.
- 5
Power cycle everything
Unplug the TV and the box from the wall for 60 seconds, plug them back in, and switch on the box first.
- 6
Swap the cable
If you have another HDMI cable, try it. Cables fail more often than televisions do.
When to stop and get help
If the TV's own menu will not appear either, or the screen stays black with sound, stop and have it looked at.
