Dishwasher
Dishwasher leaves dishes dirty
Almost always the filter, the spray arms, or how the dishes are stacked.
Before you start
Switch off at the wall or breaker before reaching into the base of the machine.
- 1
Clean the filter
Lift out the cylindrical filter at the bottom, rinse it under a hot tap and scrub off any grease.
- 2
Clear the spray arms
Spin each arm by hand. Poke a toothpick through blocked holes and rinse the arm out.
- 3
Stop the blocking
Reload so nothing tall leans over an arm and stops it spinning. Face dirty surfaces towards the middle.
- 4
Check the water is hot
Run the kitchen hot tap until it is hot before starting the machine so it fills with hot water.
- 5
Run a cleaning cycle
Run the hottest cycle empty with a dishwasher cleaner or a cup of white vinegar to strip grease and scale.
When to stop and get help
If it still washes poorly and water sits in the base afterwards, the pump or heater may have failed — get it serviced.
